Read James 1:17a (a=
the first part of the verse).
You might wonder
why James calls God, the Father of Lights.
Let's go to the book of Genesis in your Bible. If you need to use the table of contents at any time to find what you need to read please do!! No shame in that at all.
Of course, I would prefer that you get practice using your Bible, but, if you need to use the "Bible Gateway" tab to the right, simply type in the following verse and be sure to use either English Standard Version (ESV), New Living Translation (NLT), or New International Reader Version (NIRV).
Read Genesis 1:3.
On the 1st day God created a “GOOD” light.
On the 4th day He created the sun, moon, and stars.
So there was a GOOD light that seemingly had no source, but God Himself, and there was also the sun, moon, and stars that He created. When James speaks about God being the Father of Lights, he is speaking about what an amazing creator He is. (Read Psalm 74:16, 136:7-9).
Read James 1:17b (b=
the second part of the verse).
“…with whom
there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
We just
learned that God is the creator of light.
But, now James shows us a difference in what He made and who He is.
In this life, night eventually changes to day, and then day back to night. Shadows can be made because of the sun and moon casting light from only one direction. God is not like this though. His light is constant, coming at you from all directions, and unchanging. God is light! In fact Revelation 22 speaks about heaven not having a sun at all, because God will be all the light we need.
TARGET of the DAY
Today you will have 2
TARGETs. #1- Pray for your spouse and your children specifically and write this in your journal because you will begin praying for them daily. As you notice the prayer(s) being answered, write it down. God wants to show you how He answers. Remember, the moment you pray, He begins the process of answering, but it is in His timing that you will see the outcome. #2- Tell your spouse and children specific things you are thankful for today. Being specific is the key!!
MEMORY VERSE
Click on the memory verse tab to the side and begin memorizing this scripture if you have not already. Make copies of it and tape them around the house where you will see them!
