Day #6

Read James 1:16 “…every good and perfect gift comes from above…”

Think back when you were a child.  When you think about those who loved you the most, you are probably thinking about your parents.  Regardless of all their faults, they loved, and still love you, because you are their child.

Parental love is extremely powerful!  It protects and provides us with the things we need, and often times, the things we want.

(If you like, think of the above scenario with you being the parent of your own children.)

Now read Matthew 7:11.

Who does Matthew tell us is evil?  Sounds funny, huh?  Seriously speaking though… the quality of earthly parental love is flawed.  I am sure you have noticed that parents make poor choices from time to time.  But, built inside of them is an impulse to do what is best for their children.  Still, in the end, it will always be flawed because of sin.  Human parenting will never match God’s parenting.  He will always love you with a perfect love… without mistakes.  PS- remember trials are not mistakes.

Today we are going to start something called…

TARGET of the DAY.
Today’s TARGET is to begin praying for your own role as a parent AND for your mom and dad by name.  Be specific in your prayer.  Without complaining, talk to God specifically about what you are thankful for in your own parents.  Then start asking God for humility and willingness to share your own faults as a parent with your children.
